Upcoming Year

Today is a blustery day in Edmonds, yet from my cozy armchair I look out and smile with expectancy at my Arnold’s Promise witch hazel, its dazzling yellow blossoms reassuring me that spring, and warmer gardening days, are on the way. Winter here in Edmonds is typically a season for armchair gardening. In the midst of gray skies and endless drizzle, we dream, we sketch out our garden revisions, we thumb through nursery catalogs, all in anticipation of longer, warmer days.Edmonds-Garden-Association-1-e1613277640443

While our gardens are resting, winter for Edmonds in Bloom has been especially busy! This year we are looking forward to celebrating our 25th Anniversary.  Excitement is growing as we anticipate our many upcoming projects that will serve to enhance and enrich our community.  In celebration of our 25th anniversary, we are thrilled to give $25,000 to support horticultural projects around Edmonds!  These funds will support school gardens, downtown hanging baskets and corner gardens, Kruckeberg Botanic Garden, Civic Park, a scholarship to an Edmonds Community College student, garden renovation at the Edmonds Center for the Arts, and other projects. We are an all-volunteer organization dedicated to beautifying Edmonds, so contributing $25,000 to projects in celebration of our 25th year is especially gratifying.

This year - as we have since the beginning – we will celebrate the floral beauty of Edmonds throughout our events.  Starting with our Kid’s Plant for Mom’s Day May 9th at the Saturday Market, you’ll find kids planting colorful pails of flowers as gifts for their mothers.  In June, Edmonds in Bloom flags begin sprouting up all over town as lovely front yards and colorful business storefronts are recognized.  The annual Garden Tour on July 19th will highlight seven of the loveliest gardens in the City.  Our events would not be possible without our dedicated team of volunteers.  We’d love to have you join us! For information on getting involved, please check out our website.

We are very excited about our Raffle this year.  Stay tuned for your chance to win an extra special package in celebration of our 25th anniversary.   The package will be revealed first on Facebook, so be sure you are following us to be one of the first to know.

And, of course, a 25th Anniversary would not be complete without an Anniversary Party.  Mark your calendars for August 5th where we will celebrate highlights of the past 25 years, and showcase the gardens, activities and projects of 2020.  Our special guest will be Cisco Morris who will draw the lucky winners of the Raffle.

So, on these cold, drizzly days of winter, I will continue to enjoy my witch hazel and its promise of spring.  Please join us as we look forward to warmer, brighter days in the garden, and celebrate the blossoming of Edmonds in Bloom!
