5 yards of black bark again this year enhancing the beauty of the landscaping around Edmonds Center for the Arts after the prior year of thinning, planting and tilling the landscape prior to adding 5 yards of mulch.

2022 Scholarship

Jeffrey Oliver received a $1500 scholarship. He is working toward a Sustainable Landscape Management degree at Edmonds College.  He and his wife are both in the horticulture program.

2021 Scholarship

Kaitlin Stevens is pursuing a degree in Sustainable Landscape Management at the Edmonds Community College Horticulture Department.

Kaitlin was born and raised in the PNW and passionate about the flora and fauna in this corner of the world.  She is excited to be embarking upon a new career path that will allow her to spend each day working directly with the plants that have brought so much joy throughout her life.  Kaitlin looks forward to supporting our local gardens and greenspaces and to help others  likewise experience and share in the joy of plants.

Fourth and Dayton Corner Plantings

July 2020: Volunteers from Edmonds in Bloom and the Edmonds Floretum Garden Club gathered to add color to the eight corner gardens of Fourth and Dayton in downtown Edmonds.  Edmonds in Bloom donated the 17 large containers and the plants were grown by the city.  The project was organized and directed by City Horticulturalist Debra Dill of the Edmonds Park Department.

Edmonds Center for the Arts Refurbish

October 2020: Volunteers from Edmonds in Bloom worked together to refurbish the planting beds near the ECA north entrance.

“This is part of a longer-term ongoing project,” said Edmonds in Bloom President Carol Murray. “Earlier this year we added several large coral-bark maples in containers between the entrances along the front walkway, and today we’re installing some higher-end plant material in the beds between the parking lot and the north entrance.”

The beds were tilled adding in soil conditioner, a wide variety of new plants, and top mulch.   The plants were chosen to give year-round enjoyment to visitors of ECA and included Pieris, Helleborus, Hydrangea, and Heuchera.

The plants and soil conditioner were donated through fundraisers such as Edmonds in Bloom Garden Tour and individual donations.  The truckload of mulch was donated by NW Landscape Supply.

Kruckeberg Botanical Garden

Donated $500 to the garden this year to support a project to build hose post & reels. Joe Abken, the director of the Kruckeberg Garden writes “I just wanted to update you on the project. With COVID, we shut down and did not have much in the way of projects. Recently, we’ve begun to have a volunteer; Dean Weller, comes in each week. With his help, we’ve started installing posts and hose reels. Thank you for your support. We will continue this next week and through the month.”

2020 Scholarship

Michelle Gaspaire is full time at school, with all classes meeting on campus. She has much passion and dedication – making the commute from Port Orchard via ferry. Michelle’s goals are to complete two degrees from Edmonds Community College:  Greenhouse Nursery Operations and Sustainable Landscape Management. She plans to graduate in June 2023.  She also volunteers with the Kitsap Master Gardener program, where she participates in outreach to the community through Farmers Markets & Gardens. She will also work with the Women’s prison, educating them on how to grow their own food.

College Place Elementary Edible Garden

Edmonds in Bloom was delighted to be a sponsor of the College Place Elementary Edible Garden.

Groundbreaking on the new garden took place May 19, 2018, with several sponsoring organizations, volunteers, parents and students pitching in to haul soil, dig holes, fill troughs with dirt, and plant shrubs and seedlings. Edmonds in Bloom provided funding for a second year.

Kruckeberg Botanic Garden

Edmonds in Bloom provided funds for a new misting system in the garden’s greenhouse.

Seaview  Elementary Outdoor Classroom

Edmonds in Bloom supported this school that includes a greenhouse, rain barrels, planting areas, and – soon to come – a weather station.

Students learned about weather, solar panels, water collection system, composting and more.

In the fall, students decide what to plant and grow in the new beds.

Floral Baskets and Corners in Edmonds

Edmonds in Bloom sponsors several hanging baskets and corner plantings in downtown Edmonds each year.

Hands-On Activities at the City’s Greenhouse

Each spring, volunteers transplant thousands of seedlings which will bloom in the City’s 150+ hanging baskets. And, each fall, volunteers ‘de-pot’ the baskets, removing plant material and getting them ready for next years blooms.
